“My mom was really excited to put me in beauty school cuz that meant she would stop getting angry calls from neighbors complaining that I had cut their kid’s hair,” Mandy Kolweski says with a laugh. “But then of course I dropped out of beauty school when I realized I could gain more experience as an apprentice.” Mandy served as an apprentice at a West Bloomfield salon where she became even more fascinated with the salon industry. During that time she traveled to New York City and studied at the TIGI Academy. “Apparently you were supposed to already be licensed to go to the academy, but I got in anyway…hah!”.
Mandy is now definitely licensed and has been doing hair for over 12 years. She is certified in the Toni & Guy Cutting System and is an Ombre specialist. “I’ve always loved the effects of custom color, the way you can personalize the color to the shape of the head and texture of the hair”. When Mandy is not doing hair, you can find her kickin’ butt in the Professional Roller Derby League as a member of the Detroit Pistoffs.
