Made in Michigan

At One Salon we are extremely supportive of Michigan Business. Our Boutique is filled with amazing merchandise from Michigan based artists and crafters. We have amazing candles from JKM Soy Candles out of Wyandotte, clothing from Detroit Manufacturing, barrettes and jewelry made out of zippers from Re-Zip It out of Clarkston, and much more! So when I am out and about in Metro Detroit I am always looking for cool Michigan made products and visiting Michigan based businesses.

7200614My local coffee shop is locally owned and Michigan based. The chain is Coffee Beanery which is based out of Flushing, Michigan. The location I visit is the Wixom Coffee Beanery which is on the corner of Wixom Rd and Pontiac Trail in the Wixom Country Corners Plaza. They have phenomenal coffee blend flavors, delicious wraps and sandwiches, and my favorite, almond milk and coconut milk for your drinks. The owner Diane Winkelmann is a proud Michigan business owner and her coffee shop is filled with Michigan based products. I tried one of them out back in June and fell in love; it’s called Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee out of Harrison Township. I bought a bag for my Dad for Father’s Day. It was absolutely delicious. Then the next purchase I made was Crunch Granola which is based out of Wolverine Lake. It’s gluten free and has multiple delicious flavors and every bag you buy they donate to Forgotten Harvest. I buy one big bag a week from Diane. I love coming to Diane’s coffee shop because she always has something new and Michigan based.

On one day when I was out doing my normal routine, I stopped by Diane’s coffee shop. When I walked in she waved me over to try some new toffee from Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee. It was a peanut butter toffee and she knows I love peanut butter! It was amazing and then I got introduced to a new product she’s carrying called Mitten Crate. I was intrigued by this new idea and product.

Mitten Crate was created by the Founders of Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee. The idea behind Mitten Crate is to purchase a crate filled with Michigan based products that is different each month. You don’t know what’s inside until you open it! So cool, right!? When you purchase a Mitten Crate they donate 3 meals to Gleaners Food Bank. The box for October 2013 was filled with awesome goodies; Ann Arbor Tortilla, Lush Gourmet Foods from Kalamazoo, Crunch Granola from Wolverine Lake, Maria House Made Salsa from Hamtramck, Slow Jams from Grosse Pointe Woods, and The Twisted Pretzel from Saint Clair Shores. I personally purchased my crate from Diane’s Coffee Shop for $35.00. You can also check Mitten Crate out online they have a phenomenal social media campaign. They are on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in addition to their website. It’s such a great idea to be able to try products from across Michigan when you can’t travel all the time to explore. So, to be able to try products from the Upper Peninsula to South East Michigan is pretty awesome and vice versa. I recommend stopping by the Coffee Beanery in Wixom, and picking up a bag of Dave’s Sweet Tooth Toffee and your Mitten Crate today!
